SBA Hubzone Certification Overview
The SBA’s Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZone) program helps small businesses in urban and rural communities gain preferential access to federal procurement opportunities. As a means to help spur economic growth for firms residing in one of these economically depressed areas as defined by the US Census, the federal government sets-aside 3% of its annual budget to be awarded to Hubzone certified companies.
What Are The Benefits Of The SBA Hubzone Certification?
*Eligibility to compete for Hubzone set-aside opportunities issued by the Federal Gov’t
*Eligibility to receive sole source awards as a Hubzone firm in specific instances.
*Eligibility to receive a 10% price evaluation preference on solicitations with full and open competition
What Are The Hubzone Certification Requirements?
Below is a brief list of the of the eligibility requirements to enter into the Hubzone Program:
*Must be a small business by SBA standards
*Must be owned and controlled at least 51% by U.S. citizens
*Principal office must be located within a “Historically Underutilized Business Zone.
*At least 35% of its employees must reside in a HUBZone (An “employee” is any full time or part time member of your company that works a minimum of 40 hours a month).
